Courism

I was recently researching the etymology behind the word capitalism, I was wondering why there are capital letters, capital cities and therefore capitalism. It turns out that capital comes from the Latin caput meaning “of the head”. I found this poignant considering that government means “govern” (to control) “ment” = mentality and that patriarchal ideals favour logic, thought + ego/status over the feminine of feeling, being and instinct.

I believe there’s an inherent link between our words and worlds and so wondered what an alternative could be to guide us onto the world we want to see. I looked up the Latin for heart and body; heart is cor and body is corpus. I believe the heart is where our mind and body meet and is perhaps a reminder of the balance we need to succeed.

I therefore googled to see if much was out there for corism or coreism - both appeared to have theories attached to them - one on the connection between art and dreams and the other as some pompous sort of way of specifying an organisation (I could not understand or comprehend the Cambridge articles).

I then googled “courism” and there doesn’t appear to be that much out there. “Cour” in courage also means of the heart which I think seems beautiful and suiting in these times, to act bravely from the heart.

And so I am coining the word “courism” to bring forwards the idea of the world we wish to move towards where we serve and live life leading with the heart instead of the head.
